Keano Domingo, Kayla Nell triumph in Colchester Development 10km

The ninth Colchester Development Run at the weekend was a resounding success, with a record-breaking 1,022 participants taking part in the 10km and 5km events.

The ninth Colchester Development Run at the weekend was a resounding success, with a record-breaking 1,022 participants taking part in the 10km and 5km events.

Organised by Eastern Province Athletics (EPA) in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality, the event far exceeded its entry target of 800, demonstrating the growing popularity of the run and the enthusiasm of the local running community.

The sunny weather provided ideal conditions for the runners, making for thrilling competition.

The 2025 winner, Keano Domingo, from North West University, crossed the finish line in an impressive 29 min 27 sec, edging out Melikhaya Frans, from Ikhamva Athletics Club, a mere second behind in 29:28.

In the women’s category, Kayla Nell, from Charlo AC, took the top spot on the podium with a time of 38:04, while Refeloe Solomons, from Nedbank Running Club, secured second in 38:58.

Genevieve Laycock, from the LOC team, expressed her delight at the event’s success.

“We are thrilled with the turnout which exceeded our expectations,” Laycock said.

“Despite the unexpected numbers, our logistics team handled the situation seamlessly.

“The medal was a huge hit and we received wonderful feedback from participants.

“The support from the local community, clubs, sponsors, partners and participants has been overwhelming.

“We’re already looking forward to next year’s event.”

The Colchester Development Run aims to promote healthy lifestyles, community engagement and development in the region.
