Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Retief Odendaal has shuffled his mayoral committee, making two changes.

Odendaal has relinquished his position as budget and treasury political head, a portfolio that he kept in his office as a temporary intervention.

Councillor Rano Kayser has been shifted from constituency services political head to roads and transport.

Former roads and transport political head Kabelo Mogatosi will take over the budget and treasury position.

“Both Kayser and Mogatosi are thanked for the work they have done in their respective portfolios,” Odendaal said.

Before the start of a budget and treasury committee meeting on Wednesday, the mayor said he had informed Mogatotsi of his appointment.

“I deemed it necessary to get someone to focus on this committee full-time because it became more difficult to carry out all responsibilities.

“I remember when I previously held the position it was a 14-hour day job and with the increased duties as mayor it became difficult for me to balance those responsibilities.”

Odendaal said he was confident that Mogatotsi was fit for purpose because he had served in the directorate before.

Taking over from Odendaal, Mogatotsi said he looked forward to continuing with the work that had already been done.

“Fortunately, I have worked with these committee members before and I have good relations with everyone.”

He joked that the days when he could blame the supply chain delivery unit were gone now that he was part of the budget and treasury team.

“With that said, I am looking forward to the new challenges that will come with being part of this committee and for the betterment of the city.”

Kayser said on Facebook that he was humbled by the trust and confidence placed in him by Odendaal.

“Roads connect us to opportunities — let’s fix our roads.”
