A Kariega Mister Global hopeful is looking to set the pageant alight in hopes of booking a ticket to Thailand when he takes to the local stage of the annual men’s beauty contest — Mister Global SA 2024.
Self-styled pageant prince Ebrahim Wicks’ passage to the global parade later this year will be assured if he wows the judging panel and captures the crown in Johannesburg on August 3.
Dozens of contestants from countries around the world will grace the prestigious affair, celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2024, with Wicks, 35, seeking a maiden appearance after capturing Eastern Cape titles from the age of seven.
An impressive pedigree since then as a previous Mr SA and Mr India SA finalist will come in handy as he vies for the ultimate prize.
“I want to use this amazing platform to [inspire] those struggling with difficult situations,” Wicks said.
“Patience and determination are the keys to anything you want to achieve if only you believe.
“Every contestant has a unique story to tell, and I’m going into the [Johannesburg] competition advocating for [positive] mental health.
“My heart is in this to make a change.”
The entrepreneur managing a shuttle service and modelling agency in Kariega said focusing on mental health on his journey was aimed at shedding more light on the debilitating scourge in SA.
“Mental health can affect anyone,” he said.
“Life’s journey, unfortunately, is not only sunshine and roses.”
He said strutting the pageant stage in Thailand would be a dream come true and called on the support from the community while embarking on a four-month journey to become the next Mister Global SA.
“To get there would be amazing, a dream come true.
“As the only candidate representing the Eastern Cape, I humbly [seek] your support.”
