Gqeberha crowds can expect to get their funny bones tickled when popular gagster Schalk Bezuidenhout brings his epic one-man comedy show to the city later in October.

No stranger to the “Friendly City”, Bezuidenhout is excited to introduce new material in Keeping Up on his return to the Savoy Theatre following the success of his previous hit comedy show.

He treated audiences to a medley of skits and melodrama during his Feeling Good tour on his last visit in October 2021.

“I really love my new show,” the comedian said as he prepared to get the third leg of his mammoth stand-up itinerary under way.

“I think I’m a better performer and comedy writer every time I do a new show.”

Performing shows in English and Afrikaans, the Gauteng funnyman kick-started his latest solo comedy tour in September with two stops in Mossel Bay and Durban.

“The tour has started, and I’ve seen [a wonderful] response.”

Keeping Up is a show in which Bezuidenhout, who turned 30 in April, lets loose about staying relevant while keeping up being funny and politically correct in an ever-changing world.

The show will move to Emperors Palace in Johannesburg on October 20 to 22 before finally coming to the Savoy on October 30 and 31 and November 1 and 2.

Bezuidenhout said Keeping Up promised unending laughs over four days.

“People can expect to come to laugh, and I can almost guarantee they will,” he said, adding that audiences in Nelson Mandela Bay were among the best to entertain.

“I don’t start touring a show before I know it’s a product I want to put out.

“I always get along and connect with people from Gqeberha, whether I meet them at a braai or a show.

“I gel well with them, and they relate to my comedy.”

And while he looks forward to bowling Bay fans over, he insists he can pronounce “Gqeberha”.

“I can say it,” he laughed.

“There’s always so many jokes about Gqeberha. I play into it a little bit.”

After thrilling local audiences, the tour will make a pit stop at the Guild Theatre in East London on November 4 and 5.

New Zealand is in for an explosion of SA humour when Bezuidenhout introduces the country to older material from Feeling Good for one week from November 23 to 29.

“I haven’t done Feeling Good there before,” he said.

His upcoming international tour comes as the comic looks to tie the knot in December with partner of five years Mica.

But this is not before Pretoria fans get one final dose of him as a single man when he performs Keeping Up at the Atterbury Theatre on November 17 and 18.

After touring The Land of the Long White Cloud, Bezuidenhout will conclude the tour in the Western Cape with visits to Hoërskool Jan van Riebeeck from December 14 to 24, and at The George Arts Theatre on December 28 and 29.
