Schooling at Collegiate Girls' High in Gqeberha has been disrupted by a group of pupils denouncing body-shaming alleged incidents of racism at the school.

The pupils participating in the protest on Friday morning ditched their school uniforms and  wore their school tracksuit pants and black T-shirts.

Flanked by their parents, the pupils refused to budge when the school bell rang at 7.45am.

They said they had decided to protest after exhausting all other avenues to get the school to listen to their plight.

The protest was triggered by an incident that happened at the school’s fashion show on Monday, in which a pupil was allegedly body-shamed and barred from participating in the event.

This culminated in a group of matric pupils refusing to take part in the show, in solidarity with the pupil who was banned.

The protesting pupils said they were lifting the lid on long-standing issues of alleged racism at the school and would no longer be silenced.

This is a developing story.
