Premiering ahead of the Miss South Africa 2026 Finale, The Mandate is a seven-part premium documentary series that follows 19 exceptional young women as they navigate a rigorous journey of leadership, entrepreneurship, personal transformation and public purpose.
More than a behind-the-scenes look at a national title competition, The Mandate offers a rare window into the aspirations, intellect, resilience and ambition of a new generation of African women.
It is a study of leadership in formation. It is a portrait of modern SA.
And it challenges long-held assumptions about what the Miss South Africa platform represents today.
For decades, the Miss South Africa crown has been one of the country's most recognised cultural symbols. Yet behind that symbol lies something far more consequential: the responsibility to lead, advocate, inspire and create impact.
The crown is not the destination. It is the beginning.
That belief forms the foundation of The Mandate.
Across seven episodes, contestants are challenged not only to compete, but to think, to innovate, to collaborate and to define the values they wish to bring to public life. Through entrepreneurship challenges, leadership experiences, personal storytelling and moments of both triumph and vulnerability, audiences witness the making of a national ambassador.
The series reflects the evolving role of Miss South Africa in contemporary society: Increasingly, the platform extends beyond competition to include influence, purpose and nation-building.
At its core is Empower Youth Africa (EYA), the initiative that sits at the heart of the Miss South Africa mandate. EYA seeks to equip young Africans with access, opportunity, skills and inspiration, recognising that the continent's future will ultimately be shaped by those prepared to lead it.
"The women featured in this series represent ambition, resilience, creativity and the promise of a continent whose greatest resource is its young people. The title of Miss South Africa carries visibility, but more importantly, it carries responsibility," said Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, patron of Miss South Africa.
"We wanted to tell the story behind that responsibility. The Mandate reflects our belief that leadership is not defined by a crown. It is defined by service, purpose and the ability to create meaningful change."
Visually cinematic and emotionally intimate, The Mandate follows the contestants beyond the glamour typically associated with pageantry and into the spaces where leadership is forged: boardrooms, entrepreneurial ecosystems, mentorship sessions, community engagement experiences and moments of profound personal reflection.
The result is a series that sits at the intersection of culture, leadership, identity and possibility.
Ultimately, one woman will be crowned Miss South Africa 2026.
But the central question of The Mandate is not who will win. It is who will lead.
The series culminates with Miss South Africa 2026 Finale and Coronation on November 14.
